It's that time of year. No, not Halloween (though, Happy Halloween!). Not Thanksgiving or Christmas. Screw all those traditional holidays. I'm celebrating the month-long holiday where writers across the world embrace their insanity and write 50,000 words in 30 days. Yup, I'm doing it again. NaNoWriMo will consume my life for the next month (and I can't wait!).

For anyone reading who may not know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, and information on it can be found here.

Last year, what I ended up writing was a 40k original story (about a woman being haunted by a demon - I haven't even re-read it since, I don't even really remember the plot) and because that fell short of the 50k goal, I filled in with another story that ended up being a case-fic style fanfic. I was just starting to get into fanfic at that point, and also just starting to write again after 20 years, so it was all a big mess trying to get to that 50k goal (I actually switched gears partway through, and the demon story was something I'd started prior, and was about the same word count as what I was attempting, which wasn't working AT ALL, so I just swapped out one for the other - and then it fell short and I panicked, yada yada yada it was all very stressful - but I did it!).

This year, though, I'm so ready for this! I've fully embraced my love of fanfiction now, so I'm writing a wincest/weecest au - it's a coming-of-age story where Sam gets what he always wanted - a normal life - only it turns out that's not at all what he really wanted. I have an outline and everything! It was originally inspired by this post by [livejournal.com profile] riyku - though if you looked at that post as a prompt, I'm certainly taking some liberties with it. I had written some notes about the idea months ago (not really thinking about NaNo, just the idea that was brewing in my head) and a few weeks ago I pulled that out and fleshed it out a bit - only to find that there was no way it would end up being a 50k story. So I pondered and panicked and tried to come up with a different idea or another idea so I could do the whole two-stories thing again - but then my darling friend [livejournal.com profile] non_tiembo_mala and I had a conversation about why the original idea wasn't working, and some of the changes I was considering, and through that chat the real story came out. It's solid, it's good, and I'm so, so, so very excited to write it! I can't wait to write rebellious Sam and pining Dean, their struggles to fit in to a normal world they were never meant to be in, and their eventual awakening and coming together... goddammit is it tomorrow yet? Can I start now??

I may post updates on how it's all going, I may not - we'll see how it goes. I'm planning a goal of 2k words a day, and that may not leave much time for other writing like this. But, sometime in December or January (depending on how much editing is needed on this beast) I'll be posting my first full-length wincest story! Woohoo!! :-D
